Function: it is the main connecting rod with its big-end bearing, which links a piston to the crankshaft and carries the combustion load.
The reason this ends up on an order: the big-end bearing is the highest loaded bearing in the engine and the first to show distress if oil supply is interrupted.
Fitting note: Fit as a matched set with the bearing, and check the small end while the cylinder is off.
