Function: it is the internal locking nut for a shaft or bearing location.
The reason this ends up on an order: a locking nut that has lost its interference will not stay set, and the results can be expensive. Supplied as a pack of 2, which is how these small parts are normally bought — you rarely need just one.
Fitting note: Replace rather than re-stake a nut, and confirm the setting after torqueing.
