DLE20 Crankshaft

This is the crankshaft for the DLE 20 single, a small-displacement two-stroke petrol engine for sport-scale models.

The part itself is the crankshaft, which turns the piston’s reciprocating motion into rotary drive for the propeller and, on these engines, also forms the induction path through the crankcase.

Why it is replaced: a crankshaft is replaced rather than repaired after a prop strike, a bearing failure or a loss of lubrication, and on a two-stroke the shaft also has to seal crankcase pressure.

Fitting note: Check the main bearings and the crankcase seal while the engine is apart, and re-check runout after fitting.
