The part itself is fluoro-rubber (FKM) fuel or pressure line, chosen for resistance to petrol and heat.
Why it is replaced: fuel lines harden and crack from the inside out, and a cracked line is a fuel leak or an air leak into the mixture.
Fitting note: Renew fuel line on a schedule rather than waiting for it to fail, and check both ends are fully home on their fittings.
