This is the carburetor heat block for the DLE 55 single, a two-stroke petrol engine for larger sport and scale models.
The part itself is the heat block between the carburettor and the engine, which keeps the carburettor body warm and reduces the chance of carb icing.
Why it is replaced: carburettor icing is a genuine hazard on a petrol aero engine, and the heat block is the part that mitigates it; it is replaced if it is cracked or its faces are worn.
Fitting note: Check both sealing faces and fit new gaskets — the block is only useful if it seals.
