The THT 65kg-thrust turbine engine is a small gas turbine for UAV use, with an RS422 or RS232 data connection.
A turbine produces thrust by expanding hot gas through a turbine wheel and out a jet pipe, rather than by turning a propeller. That gives a very high thrust-to-weight ratio in a compact unit, which is why turbines are used where the airframe needs a lot of thrust from a small installation — high-speed targets, or aircraft launched from a catapult or a rail.
The serial data connection is the control interface: RS422 or RS232 lets a flight controller command and monitor the engine, reading parameters back rather than just setting a throttle position. On a turbine that telemetry is essential, because the engine runs at temperatures and speeds where an unmonitored excursion destroys it.
